Funding Advisory Question
WC-1 will appear on the 2026 general election ballot in Washoe County. It’s a way to tell state lawmakers whether you support an annual road use fee for electric and hybrid passenger vehicles which would support road maintenance and safety.
Ballot Language:
Do you support an annual road use fee on all electric and hybrid passenger vehicles registered in Washoe County, which would be adjusted annually for inflation? These fees are intended to approximate the annual contribution that owners of gasoline-powered vehicles pay per year in local fuel taxes to support local transportation infrastructure. The revenue from these fees would be dedicated to the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County, subject to annual audits and public disclosure of spending, and the revenue would be used solely for the funding of transportation projects that will reduce traffic congestion, repair and maintain roads, improve air quality, and increase safety.
How It Works
The road use fee is intended to supplement unpaid gas taxes that help maintain local roads. The question is non-binding and advisory only, meaning a “YES” vote itself will not create a fee. Any future fee would require authorization by the Nevada Legislature, and the amount would be determined through the legislative process.
If authorized in the future, the fee would:
Apply to electric and hybrid passenger vehicles registered in Washoe County
Be charged annually when an electric or hybrid vehicle is registered
Be adjusted annually for inflation
Generate revenue dedicated to road maintenance and safety
